Kota Doria Sarees

Kota Doria is woven in and around Kota in Rajasthan, mostly in cotton and sometimes with silk, in a square check pattern. The open weave lets air through, which is why Kota Doria is one of the most comfortable sarees for hot weather.

Printing on such a fine fabric needs a light hand. Our artisans print Bagru, floral and shibori designs that sit softly on the checked base.

What are khats?

Khats are the small square checks formed by the Kota Doria weave. Thicker and finer yarns are woven together to make the squares, which gives the saree its signature transparent texture and crisp, light drape.

• Petticoat: Kota Doria is sheer, so choose a petticoat in a matching or light colour.
• Pleats: a light starch keeps pleats and pallu crisp.
• Blouse: cotton for daily wear, printed or embroidered for functions.
• Jewellery: silver jhumkas and bangles suit the light, summery look.

How to care for your saree

• Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent.
• Do not wring; roll in a towel to remove water.
• Dry in the shade.
• A light starch and a low-heat iron keep the crisp Kota Doria look.
